Course abstract

The aim of the study course is to gain an understanding of the modern land management and land policy system, its goals and objectives in Latvia and EU countries.
Students learn the modern EU land management system, its goals and objectives, necessary for land management specialists. The study course provides an insight into the activities and measures of land policy implementation, promoting sustainable land use and protection. The study course is focused on comprehensive sustainable land management, rational and effective land monitoring, use and protection. The knowledge acquired during the study process can be used in work in state institutions, municipalities, as well as in private business.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

1. Is able to critically understand the theory and practice of land management, its nature and content, rational and effective land management, use and protection - presentations in seminar 1 and 2
2. Is able to perform land management activities independently at EU, national and local level - presentations seminar 3, 4, 5, and 6

3. Managing how to evaluate and eliminate land management problems - presentations in seminar 7 and 8

Requirements for awarding credit points

The grade "passed" is received if the following requirements are met
•written test on the theoretical material learned in the study course;

• participation in seminars with a prepared presentation is credited.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

1. Preparation of reports (presentations) for seminars

2. Studies of the scientific and study literature (monographs, scientific articles and their collections, conferences and seminars materials, specialized scientific periodicals) specified by the lecturer required for the acquisition of professional competences in the study course

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

1. The test is obtained after the knowledge test at the end of the study course and summarizing the results of the course work.

2. According to the reports (presentations) on seminars, it is assessed whether they demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of rational and effective land monitoring, use and protection, have they acquired the skills independently to carry out land management activities at EU, national and local government level, and are able to undertake land management problem assessment and deficiencies.
